Ship's CookOne of the toughest jobs aboard the Icelandic container ship — the Reykjafoss — is in the kitchen where cook Ronaldo Salcedo toils to feed all 15 crew and officers.
Description
Most consumer products in America are manufactured overseas and shipped to the United States, arriving on big cargo ships. All these ships are manned by mariners, about 1.2 million globally, and while they're out to sea, they have to eat.
These mariners hail from all corners of the world, and usually each ship has only one cook to feed all the crew. That cook may have one of the toughest jobs on board.
Reporter Chris Burrell climbed aboard the Reykjafoss on the Mystic River near Boston for this story.
