Maximum CityDescription
Mumbai, India, a city of 18 million people, is a huge melting pot: rich and poor, high caste and untouchable, Muslim and Hindu.
Author Suketu Mehta grew up in Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay. In his book, Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found, Mehta explores the underbelly of life in Mumbai. In this reading, performed by a voice actor, Mehta's Hindu uncle talks about his childhood experience with the Partition of 1947, when the British divided the Indian colony into India and Pakistan — a split that still ripples through the world today.
Encore presentation from December 6, 2008.
