Sarangi Seller
Shannon Mullen/World Vision Report
In Kathmandu, Nepal, street vendor Jhilke Gandharba (left) and his brother Sukra often approach tourists as a team, one playing the sarangi and the other extolling its virtues.
Description

Few tourists come to Nepal during monsoon season, and street vendors in the capital, Kathmandu, expect the resulting slowdown in sales.

If the previous tourist season was profitable, these vendors don't worry too much. But that wasn't the case this year, because of both the volcanic ash over Europe that grounded flights and the ongoing political unrest that shut down the city with strikes.

Shannon Mullen tells us about one street vendor in Kathmandu who's feeling the pinch.
