New Delhi Tour GuidesSunita Thakur/World Vision Report
Tour guides from the Heritage Walk Project take a group on a tour of a Muslim neighborhood of Nizamuddin Basti.
Description
A relatively poor neighborhood surrounds a 700-year-old shrine called Dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin in New Delhi, a popular tourist attraction, but many of the children in the neighborhood know little of site's history.
A non-profit organization has stepped in to change that by training young men from the neighborhood to become tour guides. The training is part of a larger project to restore not just the dilapidated monuments and gardens of the past, but the living culture of the local community.
