Description

The Roadside Restaurant in Montego Bay, Jamaica is a mom-and-pop restaurant built out of an old metal shipping container.

Winnie Allen is "mom," and she's been cooking for her regulars for decades. One of her most frequent orders is for Jamaica's national dish, ackee and saltfish.

Ackee is a fruit that looks like a tiny pomegranate. Saltfish is dried cod. Chop and fry them up together, and you get a dish that looks like scrambled eggs. Reporter Judith Ritter has this latest installment in our What's Cooking series.

Encore presentation from August 1, 2009.
