Reporter Laura Spero has lived with a rural Nepali family a few months out of every year since 2003. There, she's taken on the role of a daughter and the chores of a family member, some of which require knowledge of cultural practice and hierarchy. In this Reporter's Notebook, Spero relays the elusive rules of the village's communal water tap.
